Originally emerging from the Manhattan Club in the late nineteenth century to honor Mayor Samuel Tilden, who was running for president, Manhattans made their way into the cultural zeitgeist in full force during the ’50s and ’60s.
Ingredients
- 2½ ounces bourbon whiskey
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Ice
- Maraschino cherries
How to Make It
- In a large mixing glass, combine the bourbon whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters, and a handful of ice. Stir well until the ingredients are combined and chilled.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a few maraschino cherries.
